I’m vegan and cook with a lot of vegetable oil. Is too much fat unhealthy?

My weight is healthy and I have maintained it for many years (I have been vegan for 10 years). But I cook with a lot of oil. I recently analyzed my diet and found that a large percentage of calories were coming from fat. Is this unhealthy? How much fat is too much fat?

If you are maintaining a healthy weight, getting enough exercise, and don’t have any trouble with high cholesterol or heart disease, I don’t think you need to worry about it. You are probably still consuming far less fat than most people.

What would you do if the person who cooks for you became vegan?

And they’d only cook vegan for you.

*high five to peeps that cook their own meals*

I’d be delighted. This diet will make you healthy if you stick with it. If you choose to hurt your health by eating hamburger, steak, pork, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy. Do it. Just make sure to keep your health insurance paid up so the tax payer doesn’t have to bail you out when you get heart disease, diabetes, or osteoporosis. The evidence showing a strong correlation between animal protein consumption and diseases of affluence has not been disputed by science over the past three decades.

Make sure to pay up you health insurance and supplement your diet with deadly animal proteins to your hearts desire. It’s a bad decision, but this is a free country and I encourage the survival of the fitest. You appear to be satisfied with bad health as a consequence of the standard American diet (SAD).

Whay are there no dedicated vegan/vegetarian cookery programmes on the major TV channels?

More and more people are wising up to the vegan diet and even more out there are at least vegetarian, so why has there never ever been (in the history of television) at least one programme devoted to cooking vegan food?

I guess there’s not a demand for it. I personally loathe the Food Network for this very reason. They claim to appeal to a lot of food tastes, but where is the veg*n show? I’m vegan, but I’d still enjoy a vegetarian show!

My local PBS station has a few "specialty" channels with different themes. There is the Create station that plays a cooking show called "Christina Cooks". The tag line for her show is that she prepares whole foods, which, as it turns out is a euphemism for vegan fare. She never uses any animal products. You might want to check your local listings.
(I’ve always wanted to say that!)
:-D
Here’s the link about her show:
