The idea of ‘as …
The idea of ‘as american as apple pie’ is a crock of shit. Apple pie originated in the Netherlands and was loved in England for an extremely long time as well. They actually imported seeds to grow apples in N. America, as they are not a native plant.
I’m willing to bet that that phrase, as well as ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ were advertising slogans at one point or something.
